A Delicious Apple Cider Whiskey Cocktail

You know I’m a fan of Moscow Mule variations and the holidays are the perfect time to serve them to your friends and family.

They’re notoriously easy cocktails to make and fun to modify to include seasonal flavors.

This Apple Mule skips the vodka, in favor of whiskey, to create a flavorful drink that is refreshing and comforting at the same time.

It’s easy to keep these ingredients on hand so you can make these tasty whiskey cocktails whenever friends drop by or you decide to host a party.

Ingredients

What you need to make an Apple Cider Mule.

I picked up my Apple Cider Moscow Mule ingredients at my local Albertsons store. Feel free to use what you already have on hand.

Apple Cider adds a sweetness and a very subtle apple juice flavor. It’s one of my favorite ingredients to use heading into the holidays.

Ginger Beer is a classic cocktail mixer and one of the award-winning products recognized for its quality and flavor.

Similarly, the Signature Select™ Tennessee Straight Whiskey offers a great liquor, for creating delicious craft cocktails, at a value.

The whiskey adds another layer of flavor that will help warm you up when the weather cools down. (You can use bourbon in place of whiskey if you prefer).

For extra flavor, this recipe uses fresh lime juice, maple syrup and pie spice, a blend that includes all your favorite seasonal spices in one!

How to make an Apple Cider Moscow Mule with Whiskey

Step 1

To a copper Moscow Mule mug, add fresh lime juice.

*A note on the copper mug: They aren’t required but they sure are a great way to serve these cocktails!

Whether you’re making these for a holiday gathering or just sipping a drink with your significant other, a copper mug helps to keep your cocktail frosty.

And guests LOVE them! With a delicious cocktail and a copper mug, you will have your guests begging to be invited back.

Step 2

Add the whiskey to the mug.

This delicious whiskey is 4 years old and aged in new charred oak barrels. Tennessee Straight Whiskey makes premium small batches and has notes of caramel and vanilla, balanced with toasted oak.

It has a smooth finish and is an excellent whiskey to use in cocktails where you want the flavor to shine through.

Step 3

Add the apple cider.

I used the Signature SELECT™ variety that I found in the bottled juice aisle, but for a more pronounced flavor look for a cold-pressed juice.

And keep your eyes out for seasonal versions that are sometimes offered as the holidays kick into high gear.

And while you’re there, be sure to pick up an Advent Wine Calendar to use for a virtual wine tasting with friends!

Step 4

Add the pie spice. I love using powdered spices in cocktails. They are a quick way to add a ton of flavor.

If you’re a fan of spice, go a little heavier. If not, start with a little and add more as needed.

And if you would rather add the individual spices that you like most, that works too. Feel free to make this your own!

If you are using an apple cider that already has spices added, you may need to use way less or none of the powdered spice.

Step 5

Add ice.

Step 6

Then top with ginger beer.

When making a Moscow Mule, you should keep the ginger beer to no more than 2-3 ounces.

Ginger beer can be super strong and overpower the other flavors if you go too heavy.

If you want to ensure a full cup, you can either add more apple juice or more ice.

I’ve tried just about all the brands of ginger beer and this one is delish! It has a zingy flavor at first and a nice bite from the ginger at the end. It’s full of flavor and I’ll be keeping it on hand in my home bar from now on.

Step 7

While I don’t love sweet cocktails, sometimes you need to add a little sweetness to balance the flavors. I decided to use maple syrup to add extra flavor as well.

It works really well with the spices and whiskey flavors.

You could substitute honey or simple syrup, as well. In fact, this Vanilla Syrup with Cinnamon would be AMAZING!

Step 8

A quick stir to blend the flavors and you’re almost ready to start enjoying your cocktail.

A fun garnish

The perfect garnish for this Apple Mule is a slice of green apple dusted with a little extra pie spice.

This Apple Cider Mule is a great cocktail recipe to make for your holiday parties.

Because of the fizzy nature of the ginger beer, you wouldn’t really want to batch these ahead of time.

But with each drink being so simple to make, you could easily serve them as your guests arrive. Or better yet, set out all the ingredients, along with the mugs, an ice bucket and a printed out recipe and let them make their own!
