Store-bought sugar cookies topped with an easy fruit bruschetta are perfect for fuss-free entertaining!

This semi-homemade recipe for Sugar Cookie Fruit Bruschetta looks fancy but takes very little effort. If you’re looking for something delicious to make, you’re going to love this recipe!

Fruit desserts are my favorite! I mean, don’t get me wrong, chocolate is super awesome too. But fruit desserts are just so tasty.

Why This Recipe Works

This Sugar Cookie Fruit Bruschetta recipe is super tasty and so EASY to make!

It starts off with a store-bought sugar cookie base and then gets even more radical with fresh berries and a touch of whipped cream.

The prep is quick, the finished dessert is super pretty and this is the perfect thing to take to a potluck or block party! With its red, white and blue color it’s perfect for Memorial Day and Fourth of July.

But it’s also a fun treat for an after-dinner treat.

People will think you spent lots of time on these when really you were kind of lazy. And I embrace lazy.

And by lazy, I mean I just don’t love to spend more time on things than I really need to.

I also love that you don’t really need any serving utensils for this and they are super easy to grab. Finger foods keep things simple and are great for mingling.

I think the slightly tart sweetness of fresh berries works really well with the sweet and crunchy sugar cookies. I could see things like kiwi working well, but fruits like watermelon and apple don’t seem like the best choices.

But it’s up to you. I’m not the fruit police.

Ingredients

Fresh fruit drying on a blue and white striped dishcloth.
What you need to make this easy fruit bruschetta.

The fresh ingredients and the sweet cookie create a delightful dessert idea.

  • Store-bought sugar cookies
  • fresh strawberries
  • blueberries
  • fresh basil leaves
  • whipped cream

These are the berries I decided to use for this yummy fruit bruschetta. But you can use any!

Also, why mess with a good thing. The grocery store knows how to make cookies too. And they’re quite good, in fact. And they hold their shape better than homemade. But if you want to make homemade, I’m not stopping you!

Again, I use store-bought whipped cream because I like that it comes with its own decorative tip. It’s easy to create a pretty little swirl on top of each cookie.

Directions

Woman cutting fresh berries at the kitchen counter.

1. Chop the berries

To a small bowl, add chopped strawberries and basil. Add blueberries to the bowl and mix well.

2. Chop the basil

I decided to chiffonade my basil because I’m fancy like that. It also looks really nice. But you can use herb shears or just chop it however you feel like.

I kept the blueberries whole for their color and have you seen the insides of a blueberry? It’s quite off-putting. It makes me think of zombies. Which is not super appetizing in terms of dessert presentation.

3. Build the bruschetta

To make the fruit bruschetta, just lay a cookie on a plate. Then top with a dollop of whipped cream and a spoonful of the berry and herb mixture

God Bless America, am I right?! I love the colors in this easy dessert idea. And the best part is that they didn’t take hardly any time at all! Thank you, store-bought cookies and Mother Nature!

Also, I didn’t have to turn the oven on so my house doesn’t heat up. Just another reason why this berry and herb fruit bruschetta is a great summer dessert.

To Serve at a Party

For a do-it-yourself bar, I would put the bowl of berries on top of a bowl of ice and keep the whipped cream in a wine chiller. Then set out the cookies on a cute platter and a spoon and your job is done. Boom.

With an easy treat like these, I don’t freak out when someone asks me to bring a dish to a party. Knowing I don’t have to do a ton of work beforehand takes the stress off!

Tips

  • While this recipe calls for fresh basil, you can use a different herb if you prefer. Mint would be delicious. And also rosemary. YUM!!!!!
  • And, of course, you can make your own sugar cookies if you prefer doing that over store-bought.
  • If these are going to sit out at all, though, you might want to let guests add the whipped cream themselves as it can melt. These could easily be set out as a “station” so people could make them as they want them.
