The pretty pink color makes it a fantastic mixed drink to serve for any spring party and also baby and bridal showers.
While the main ingredient in a traditional gimlet is liquor, this one is a little easier to drink thanks to the watermelon juice. And remember you can always play with the measurements to find your perfect cocktail ratio.

If you don’t have watermelon vodka you can still make this recipe. Just use regular vodka instead.
Alternate ways to add watermelon flavor
I found watermelon juice in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. You can also make your own by blending fresh watermelon and straining out the pulp.
You can also make this with a watermelon simple syrup (that you can make yourself) or buy a flavored syrup like Torani or Monin. In this case you would skip adding the plain simple syrup.
You can also add a splash of Watermelon Schnapps (if you can find that!) when using plain vodka.

How to Make a Vodka Gimlet with Watermelon
Step 1
To a cocktail shaker, add the watermelon vodka and fresh lime juice.
Step 2
Add the simple syrup and watermelon juice
Step 3
Add ice and shake well for 15-20 seconds.
Step 4
Strain into a martini glass. (Or whatever glass you want – read more about my favorite glassware here).
Step 5
Garnish if desired.
*I don’t think every drink has to have a garnish. I usually only do it if I am serving to a friend but not if I’m drinking one on my own. I used edible flowers to add color which is easy and fun but not required.
Equipment and Tools
For this recipe, you just need a cocktail shaker. If you don’t have on you can use a mason jar with lid and then use the lid to help you strain out the ice when you pour into the glass.

Top tips
If you’ve been a reader for a while, you know that I don’t like to buy flavored liquor or specialty ingredients unless I absolutely have to. I was sent this bottle and thought the flavor was natural tasting and delicious.
I’m sharing this recipe because I know you can make it with plain vodka, but I also think if you bought a bottle of Skyy Infusions Watermelon, you could use it in place of plain in most of the vodka recipes I share on my site.
- Always taste your cocktail before straining it into the glass that way you can adjust things and make it your own. Need more sweetener? No problem, make it how you like it!
- Fresh lime juice is a MUST! It is my favorite cocktail ingredient and bottle just doesn’t give the same pop of freshness.

Technically, a gimlet has lime juice where as a martini uses vermouth as a flavoring agent. Because these are sometimes served in a martini glass, you could call it a martini and most people wouldn’t bat an eye.
I like to serve a gimlet in a martini glass but you can serve it in a coupe glass or something fun like a Nic and Nora glass. And here’s where I get crazy and tell you to serve it in whatever glass you want to that is small and doesn’t hold a ton of liquid. I’m a rebel.

- .75 oz lime juice
- .5 oz simple syrup
