Why This Rum Cocktail Recipe Works

This easy rum and pear cocktail recipe is for you if you’re a spiced rum fan, or just love seasonal spices.

This spiced pear cocktail is a super simple recipe with just a few good ingredients. Including spiced rum. I really enjoy spiced rum. It instantly makes it feel a bit fall-like.

I don’t usually drink anything with pear any other time of the year except for fall. But California fall isn’t very transitional in temperature.

The spices and vanilla flavors in this drink remind me of holiday baking so it’s a great trick if your weather hasn’t cooled down yet.

Pear pairs really well with the spiced rum. Adding fresh ginger is another layer of flavor that you will really love. While the warm spice notes are great for fall, this easy pear and rum cocktail can be sipped any time of year.

Serve one up at your next happy hour or at any fall party.

Spiced rum adds warmth and fall vibes to any cocktail. I love the 1671 Spiced Rum from Captain Morgan. It was a special edition but you can still find it in a variety of places. If you have a different brand of spiced rum, feel free to make that swap.

You might be surprised by the pear juice, but it’s a not-too-sweet, seasonal fruit that pairs well with spiced rum.

Fresh ginger and whole nutmeg are quintessentially fall flavors and really make this cocktail sing. If you can’t get fresh, you can use ground spices but you won’t get the same warmth. There is just something extra special about fresh grated spices. YUM!

Optionally, you can garnish with edible flowers.

How to Make a Pear Cocktail with Spiced Rum

1. To a cocktail shaker add the pear juice.

This Spiced Pear cocktail calls for muddled ginger. I love a good muddle, don’t you?

2. Add 4 slices of raw ginger to the cocktail shaker and muddle the heck out of it.

Do this for longer than you think you need to, to encourage the ginger to release all that gorgeous flavor.

It’s always good to have a little bit of liquid, in this case, the pear juice, in the shaker when you muddle so the oils that are released have somewhere to go.

3. Add the spiced rum, a few grates of fresh nutmeg and ice to the shaker and shake well.

Always add the ice last to the cocktail shaker so that it has the least amount of time to start melting. Melting equals diluting.

5. Grate on a little bit more fresh nutmeg. If not using fresh, sprinkle a bit of ground instead.

There are not any flowers IN this drink. But they look so pretty sitting on top. And the orange color is perfect for fall.

I get my edible flowers at Sprout’s, Gelson’s or Whole Foods. But you can also find some dried flower varieties on Amazon.

Edible flowers make the prettiest garnish!

Spiced Pear Cocktail for fall entertaining.

This Spiced Rum Pear cocktail would be a great one for Thanksgiving. There aren’t a lot of ingredients and it doesn’t take too much time so you won’t be on cocktail duty all night.

But because it’s so refreshing and tasty, you can really drink this any time of year!

Tips and Tricks

  • Did you know you can now get some alcohol on Amazon Fresh?? They have a few different Spiced Rums, but I’m sure they are tasty too.
  • If you want to make a batch of these cocktails, consider buying ginger juice. It will be much faster than having to muddle fresh ginger for multiple drinks. Just start with a little and add more if needed. Ginger is STRONG!
  • To infuse the drink with more ginger flavor you can use the juice as mentioned above or you can grate the ginger so the pieces are much smaller and release more juice.
  • In a pinch, you could use 1/4 tsp ground ginger in place of fresh ginger but you will lose that bite and heat that the fresh root brings. Taste and add more as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use spiced rum?

No. You can also use dark rum. But I wouldn’t use white rum as a substitution. It just won’t have those spice flavors that make this so good.

I won’t finish an entire bottle of rum, what can I do instead?

You can always pick up those airplane-sized bottles at BevMo and even your local grocery store if you don’t want to buy a full bottle. Or buy the bottle then use it to make Rum Cake.

Where can I find pear juice?

Pear Juice is easy to find in most supermarkets. If you can’t find it you can substitute pear nectar, but it will have a little bit more texture.
